Innovative Design with Waste Streams

With ROVER, Tom De Koninck creates furniture from leftover materials sourced from local industries. The project reverses the traditional design process: it starts not from an idea, but from the materials at hand. In doing so, waste streams gain new meaning and function. The Scrap Chair is made from punch waste and rebar collected from Flemish companies, while the Latto Lamp is crafted from old bed slats and plywood. Each object demonstrates how reuse can lead to unexpected design outcomes. ROVER stands as a plea for circular thinking, local collaboration, and creativity within constraint.
