As Denkstof, Fauve Villez, Lenie Van Asten and Raven Wittouck – three young artists from Kortrijk – found each other at WONDER, driven by the courage to take on this challenge together. Without resorting to made-up stories, we share a desire for connection, for the collective, and for a distorted reality. As ‘raw material creators’, our projects genuinely bring people together, from workshops with children to art exploring mental vulnerability.
FONKEL – Fauve Villez
As an occupational therapy student, Fauve Villez explored the themes of connection and vulnerability through the FONKEL project during workshops with organisations including the De Mare Rehabilitation Centre and Minor-Ndako. These encounters gave rise to multi-layered artworks and an intensive dance project in which strangers, set to specially composed music, transformed into a single, close-knit group. At the exhibition, you’ll discover this process and be invited to complete the circle. Leave your own mark on the collective artwork, because connection is something we create together.

GRONDSTOF – Raven Wittouck
With ‘Grondstof’, Raven Wittouck, in collaboration with Bolwerk and Durf Jij, organised a makers’ weekend centred on well-known and lesser-known crafts. From 16 to 18 October, 21 young makers set up a temporary studio where they exchanged techniques, experimented and worked together on new ideas. Those three days gave rise to an interactive installation bringing together different materials, techniques and makers. The work showcases the result, which is, above all, a reflection of their combined efforts.

For WONDER, Lenie Van Asten invited children to devise and sketch their own hybrid creatures. These imaginative drawings formed the starting point for a series of sculptures in which her own visual language and the children’s ideas come together. This gave rise to strange, funny and sometimes unsettling figures, constructed from unexpected combinations of animals. At the exhibition, you’ll discover how a child’s free imagination lives on in an artist’s work.
