For WONDER, Dutch artist Adrianus Kundert has created ‘Weaving Rocks’: a series of moving sculptures, built using the mechanisms of so-called ‘kiddy rides’ – small children’s attractions often found at shopping centres. The undulating forms are assemblages of colourful fabrics, experimental materials and techniques that Kundert has mastered over the years. Some sculptures can be ridden on, whilst others move as autonomous objects, activated by a coin. This creates a playful landscape that blends sculpture, amusement ride and textiles – a hallmark of Kundert’s work, in which material, technique and movement merge seamlessly.
With ‘Weaving Rocks’, he aims to celebrate the beauty and versatility of weaving and braiding. That same fascination also lies at the heart of ‘Basketclub’, an Instagram-based platform for experimental basket weaving that Adrianus founded a few years ago.
