Second Matter

Second Matter is a spatial installation by Maximiliaan Schevenhels, comprising two parallel aluminium structures. The work takes its cue from Quick-Step’s recycling processes. Industrial techniques and material flows are translated into an abstract formal language. Compaction and decomposition form a recurring rhythm within the installation. The original functionality of the machines is set aside.

Consequently, the focus shifts to structure, rhythm and connection. The installation invites the viewer to look and observe at a leisurely pace. It makes hidden industrial processes visible and tangible.

At the same time, it creates an autonomous, sculptural experience. The project bridges the gap between industry, design and imagination.
