For WONDER, Bram Vanderbeke is transforming the KIOSK on the Grote Markt into a public studio. Scale models, moulds and test set-ups offer a glimpse into the creative process behind a new work for Revire.
Revire is a meeting place where care, entrepreneurship, creativity and research converge. Inspired by Revire’s architecture, light and open community, an installation is taking shape that not only showcases a final result, but above all reveals the thinking, making and growth that precede it.
Bram Vanderbeke creates Architectural Objects: monumental designs with a distinct materiality and aesthetic. In doing so, Bram proposes that these works be regarded as objects in a state of transition. Not so much as unfinished works, but as objects whose intrinsic potential is emphasised: their capacity to vary and change, depending on the context in which they find themselves. The works establish an interaction between space and object, and between architecture and function.
Stacking is a key concept within these Architectural Objects. It is precisely this act of stacking – the deliberate and, above all, physical act of placing one thing on top of another – that lies at the heart of many of these works. Viewed from a distance, the Architectural Objects emphatically highlight their surroundings, reinforcing their identity and introducing a new rhythm. Up close, the objects reveal other qualities. On the one hand, their function becomes apparent at that moment and the viewer becomes a user. On the other hand, materiality takes centre stage, driven by the textures and nuances of the surfaces and by the rawness and solidity of form and matter. They reflect a process that is at once experimental and purposeful, physical and mental.
