Typo on my way

Erik Desombere regularly finds himself lost in the paradise of typographical experiments on building façades and in public spaces. Whenever he makes one of his most fascinating discoveries, a very personal and exploratory process begins anew. He sees this as a dialogue in which, as a typographer, he converses with words he has found. What do those letters stand for? When might they have been applied? What was their role in the public space? Do these letters still hold an inspiring, creative, perhaps even artistic value today? Could he, as a typographer, turn this into something relevant for the present day? Do the letters contain enough characteristics to (re)design the entire alphabet with them? Perhaps even capital letters and/or lowercase letters, some punctuation marks and special characters. 

In his new project of discovery, research and design, he presents several complete typefaces: Stella Maris (Waterschei), Boulez (Kortrijk), Excelsior (De Panne) and Colombe (Comines). A simple installation vividly brings to life the intensive quest to complete the set.
