Joëlle Dubois - Rekindling

With Rekindling, Joëlle Dubois (1990, Ghent) presents her latest solo exhibition at Be-Part, Kortrijk. Alongside a selection of key works from private collections, she unveils a new series of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and — notably — a video piece, marking her debut in the medium of video. In doing so, Dubois explores a new layer within her practice, where familiar themes take on a renewed emotional resonance. The new works reflect a more personal and introspective approach. Themes such as memory, loss, mourning, and consolation run like a thread through the exhibition. This shift signals a more contemplative phase in her oeuvre, shaped by personal experiences — most notably the passing of her mother. The search for identity and the confrontation with impermanence serve as essential points of departure.
